Over the past few months Instagram has become my favorite social media site. I love taking photos and coming up with new ones to post. It has taken me awhile, but I’ve figured out how to take the photos I like and how to come up with new photos to post. I thought I would share with you how I take my photos, and what I do to find inspiration to take new ones!
When I first started using Instagram I stuck with posting all iPhone photos because I felt using my fancy camera was somehow “cheating”. I now tend to take most of my photos with my Canon T3i, but I still like to mix in a few that I have taken with my phone. I try to remind myself that it doesn’t matter what I used to take the photo, all that matters is that I like the photo.
I use to look at other bloggers Instagram posts and think “wow, they always have someone to take a photo for them.” But it turns out all you need is a tripod and a remote for your camera! Although my outfit photos are taken by my lovely mom, photos like the one above were taken by me setting up my camera on a tripod, propping it on my bed or table, and using my remote to focus the camera and take the picture! Although it would be easier to have someone take the photo for me, it’s nice to be able to take shots whenever I want, and it’s just a bit more satisfying knowing I took it myself.
Whenever I’m feeling a little uninspired, I always head over to Pinterest! I tend to search for anything from flat lays to outfit photos. I also like to look at other bloggers Instagram feeds, as I find seeing others taking amazing photos inspires me to go out and take my own. It’s just important to remember to make every shot your own! If all else fails, I look back a pervious Instagrams I’ve posted, which usually makes me want to post more.
I use to find posting once a day on Instagram to be an impossible task, but once I started posting photos from blog posts it became so much simpler! I usually like to post 2-3 photos per blog post, spread out over a week. This not only makes being consistent on Instagram easier, but it also motivates me to think of new blog posts! In between posting blog photos, I like to post snaps from my everyday life. Whether it’s a flatly of items I’ve been loving, an outfit photo, a snap of scenery, or a look at my mornings, I try to take a new photo everyday.
My goal for everyday is to take at least 10 photos a day. As I wrote in my 7 things I’ve learned from blogging post, you have to take every shot you can in order to get a photo you like. There have been plenty of times where I wasn’t going to take the photo, but then after I do I love what I took. Having a wide variety of photos makes maintaining my Instagram easier and more enjoyable for me!
And that’s it! Hope you enjoyed this look at how I take my Instagram photos, and let me know if you would like to see a post on how I edit my Instagrams!
