How To Deal With Instagram Follow/Unfollow + OOTD

Everyone who has an Instagram account has had this happen to them. Someone follows you, and you think “awesome! someone who likes my feed.” And then either a day or two they unfollow you. It’s become a trend for people to build up their Instagram followers by simply following a large amount of people and then less than a few days later unfollowing them. Although this isn’t a good practice because they won’t be getting the engagement of those people, people still will continue to do it just to get the following quicker.

After awhile it becomes the question of if everyone following you is simply following you for a follow back. And when you’re looking to build up a community with fellow bloggers and others on Instagram it can be hard to tell which ones are genuine. There are some things you can do to deal with this annoying practice, and I thought I would share how I deal with it with you + a OOTD of this perfect summer day out outfit!

First thing to remember is…

Sadly there is nothing you can do to stop it. People will always do this practice because it’s an easy way to get followers without buying them. Because people can often tell when someone has bought followers, people have turned to doing mass follows and un-follows. The big downside of them doing this is they won’t get the engagement hat comes with the followers because those people are only following them back for a follow, not because they like their photos. It will get to a point where you will be so frustrated that you will might want to curse them out, but that’s not the best option.

There are some key ways you can see if someone is doing this. If they don’t like at least one of your photos chances are they just want a follow back. Although there will be people who will like AND comment on your photo and still unfollow you 24 hours later, it’s any easy way to know right away. I personally make it a rule that I have to genuinely like your feed and they have to have liked a photo before I will look at following another blogger, since I’ve had so many unfollow me in less than 24 hours. You should also look and see the comments on some of their most recent photos. I have been suspicious of someone before and while looking at a comment on their most recent post someone comments “thanks for the unfollow.” This thankfully let me know to avoid following this person back.

Unfollow App

The way you can monitor who follows and un-follows your Instagram account is through an app. I have found this to be a lifesaver because there is no way I can monitor who un-follows me on a daily basis. I have tried countless apps for this and the one I have found that works best and is free is called Followers. The app is grey with colored lines and says the word followers on it. It allows you to see everyone who has followed you and everyone who has un-followed you in time order. The app also allows you to see all the people who are not following you back and all the people you are not following back. It does have some features you can pay for, like who blocked you and any deleted comments or likes, although they’re not really needed. I would high suggest getting one of these app so you can keep an eye on those mass un-followers!

Social Blade

Social blade is also a great tool to use to see if someone is on a follow/unfollow spree. If the person is already in the system, you will be able to see if in the past few days they have gone around following or unfollowing mass amounts of people. Be careful however, because sometimes it isn’t always the most accurate. But if it shows up that someone is doing it by at least over 50 people, chances are they are actually doing it. It will also show you if they have done this in the past few weeks as well. When someone follows you who you want to follow back because you like their feed, always do a simple search on social blade first. It can be shocking what you find!

OOTD

I have been on the hunt for short sleeve tops that weren’t t-shirts for awhile now, but sadly had no luck until now. This spotted blouse is from H&M and perfect for hot summer days. I love pairing it with this button down denim skirt from the LOFT. I’m not a huge fan of wearing skirts in the summer because if there is any bit of wind I have to hold it down. Luckily because this skirt is denim that doesn’t happen, which is why it’s my go-to. And to dress up the look a bit more I love throwing on my Nine West wedges and purse before heading out the door!

And that is some of my tips for dealing with the Instagram follow/unfollow + a summer day out OOTD! It can be hard when you want to connect with other bloggers or build your following, but just remember to be patient and let people follow you naturally. It will be so much more rewarding to have build up your following over time!

I can so relate to this! It’s so frustrating, especially when you are genuinely trying to create a little instagram community. I’m glad it’s not just me who is experiencing this, it can definitely be a bit disheartening when you open instagram to find 20 people have suddenly unfollowed you!
I also love your outfit, so effortlessly stylish!

I’m so glad you can relate! Sometimes I’m just tempted to put in my profile to please don’t play the follow/unfollow game. From what I’ve seen on Twitter a lot of bloggers are sadly experiencing it right now. You’re right, it does get disheartening and it makes having a community hard because lots of bloggers do it. And thank you! It’s one of my current favorite outfits xx
