My Top 5 Struggles Of Blogging

I have fallen in love with blogging this past year. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend my free time, and the creative high I get from creating new posts is unlike anything else. However, just like everything in life there are downsides and struggles. As much as I love blogging, there are still things that I struggle with and that annoy me. I thought I would share 5 of these things with you so if you’re a blogger you may relate, or if you’re not, hopefully this will give you more of an inside look into blogging!

Constantly coming up with new ideas

As much as I love creating new posts, there are always times where I struggle with coming up with new ideas. There are some weeks where I can come up with tons and tons of blog post ideas and how I want to create them, and there are some where I draw a complete blank. I find this is natural with anything you do in life, but it’s still something I struggle with even though I’ve created tons of posts. Luckily I write down all my posts ideas so when I am drawing a blank I can look back on them!

Finding Natural Lighting / The Weather

As a blogger I rely on natural lighting and good weather for all of my photos. I prefer natural lighting because no artificial light will ever be as good. A big struggle for me is having enough natural light / the weather. I take almost all of my lifestyle photos in my “studio apartment” bedroom, and sometimes the sun just doesn’t want to shine that bright. I find often times when I’m in the mood to shoot photos or have the time it’s too dark. I also find that on days when I can go out and take outfit photos, it starts raining just as I’m about to leave/shoot. And not to mention where I live the summers can get extremely hot and humid, making taking outfit photos nearly impossible.

Staying Motivated

Since no one is making me blog, and it’s not my job, sometimes staying motivated can be hard. There are times where all I want to do is blog, and there are other moments where I want to be as far away from my laptop as I can. Motivating myself to be consistent and blog twice a week has been a challenge I’ve faced many times. Although luckily I can get back to being motivated within a day or two!

Technology Failing

There is nothing worse than taking photos or working on a post, and having something go wrong with your technology. Although I have luckily never had any photos I’ve taken be corrupted (knock on wood), I have forgotten camera batteries or memory cards when going out to take photos. The one thing I do struggle with is my laptop. There have been a few too many times where I have typed up a whole post, gone to click save, and it goes to have me log in which loses all of my work. This has to be the one thing that frustrates me the most about blogging.

Self Doubt

As much as I try to fight it, there always comes a period of time where I doubt myself and my blog. I start doing the awful practice where I compare my blog to others and I doubt whether what I’m posting is actually good and beneficial. I just overall start doubting everything and although the more I blog the less it happens, it still will be something I have to deal with from time to time.

Dress: LOFT | Sandals: EuroSoft | Tote Bag: Target

And those are the five things I struggle with when it comes to blogging. If you’re a blogger let me know what you struggle with, or if you’re not let me know what you found surprising to know is challenging for bloggers!

All true! I think we all struggle with self doubt. I know I do. The main thing to remember is not to compare ourselves with other bloggers because we all have something very unique to offer! I know it’s easier said than done… Keep up the good work!

You’re so right Patricia! I’m going to keep that in mind next time I start comparing myself. And thank you! x

  2. Yes! The weather and staying motivated can be the biggest struggle!

  3. Keep it up, it is so much work sometimes but also can be so rewarding.

Self-doubt is a big struggle for blogging because it has you second guessing your decisions or abilities. That is the main reason why I quit blogging for about a month because of self-doubt!

It definitely is a big struggle, if not the biggest when it comes to blogging. I have taken breaks too because of self doubt, but I find the reward of blogging in the end is worth all the doubt! x

This list was super relatable. I struggle with self-doubt the most, which is crazy because it’s all made up in my head! Perhaps you can write a list about how us bloggers can combat self-doubt! Did I just think of the perfect future blog post idea for you?! I think yes, do it!

    • Kara Callahan says:

I’m so glad you can relate! You’re right, it is all made up in our heads. And haha thank you so much for the post idea! I’ll definitely be putting that on my blog post list for next month! xx

This dress though, I really fell in love ever since I saw it on instagram! I so agree with this post, I’ve faced all of these issues especially the technological one sucks a lot and I also have a hard time keeping up with what’s trending. I have decided to just go ahead and do whatever I like lol and I’m enjoying that. I love that you’re getting over self doubt slowly.:)

It’s the one dress I have to stop myself from wearing too much. I’m glad you can agree with the post! I love the mindset of not keeping up with trends and doing what you enjoy! I think that’s really the key when it comes to blogging xx
