I made it a goal of mine at the end of 2017 to stop buying beauty and skincare products that aren’t cruelty free. It still amazes me how there are still so many brands that test on animals, and I decided that no product was worth any animal being in pain. Now I will admit that there have been a few times when I’ve restocked or bought a new item this year and after I’ve used it I realized that it wasn’t cruelty free. But mistakes are how we learn and I’ve started getting in the habit to always check something before buying it. I was surprised when looking through my collection just how many of my favorite products are cruelty free (which makes me so happy!). So I thought I would share my favorite cruelty free beauty and skincare/hair products that I absolutely love in case you’re thinking about making the change to cruelty free too!
I’ve been using this every day for almost a year now, and I love it more every time I use it. It gives a natural, minimal base, which I love because it doesn’t feel like I’m trying to hide my skin. Sadly they have changed the formula of this to include alcohol, so I can’t speak for how the new formula is, but I would still give it a try.
I discovered this product over a year ago and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever use anything else. It gives the perfect natural look to my brows, and the shade I use (Taupe) is the perfect neutral to cool tone ash color.
As someone whose skin tends to be more dewy by the end of the day, I use to always avoid buying highlighters. But I decided to give Glossier’s Haloscope a try once and I haven’t used anything since. It’s perfect for adding a little bit of shine to my cheekbone, but it still blends in nicely.
Last year I was on the hunt for a more natural mascara since I didn’t like the idea of putting something near my eye that had bad ingredients in it. Luckily this mascara is cruelty free as well, because it gives the perfect length and color to my lashes while still looking pretty natural. The only thing I don’t like about this mascara is it isn’t water proof, and if you get it in your eye, be prepared to run to the nearest tissue.
I was so so happy to read that Lorac is cruelty free since this is my favorite eyeshadow palette of all time! I use this palette almost every day, mainly the shade Pewter, and I love it for an easy eye look. It has seen better days since I have dropped it a few times, but this is the only eyeshadow palette that I do plan on repurchasing in the future.
Nudestix also does amazing lip products as well. I love their intense matte lip + cheek pencil because it stays on all day, and the shade Royal is a beautiful red color. The other lip product of theirs that I love is the cream lip + cheek pencil, which I have in Sin, and it is a beautiful everyday pink shade. This one doesn’t stay on all day, but it’s easy enough to reapply that I don’t mind.
If you’re looking for lip products on a budget, I can not recommend enough the ELF matte lip colors! They are only 3 dollars, they stay on for a pretty decent amount of time, and the colors are so pretty. My two personal favorites are Cranberry (which I’m wearing in the first photo of this post), and rich red.
This is one of my most recent purchases and I’m 100% sold on not only the product but the brand. Not only is it cruelty free, but it’s vegan, free of parabens and silicones, and ethically sourced. They have a few different collections that focus on certain hair needs, but the one I use is the coconut oil and ylang ylang range. It smells like heaven, and leaves my hair feeling healthier. It’s the high end hair line quality without the high end price.
I’m not a skincare expert so I’m never 100% sure how to tell if a toner is really working, but I’ve used a few and this rose petal toner is the best one I’ve ever tried. I use it in the morning and evening to clean off my face and give my skin a refresh. Since it is alcohol free, it doesn’t dry my skin and it actually makes it feel hydrated.
And those are my favorite cruelty free makeup + skincare products! I still have a long way to go, but it’s lovely to have products I already love that are cruelty free. I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of this, or if you’re thinking about going cruelty free yourself!
