If you follow me on Instagram, by now you know just how much I love home decor. One of the main reasons I love it is because just by changing a few items you can transform how a space feels, and really let your own personal style shine. It can get pricey and overwhelming changing up your space and keeping it being an inspirational, cozy place, but it doesn’t have to be! I thought I would share some of my favorite ways to change up a space without spending too much. So if you’re home decor obsessed like me, or just want to refresh your space, keep on reading!
One easy way to change the vibe of your space is by putting new decor on your walls! Need some added motivation? Put some prints of quotes you love on your wall, and you can even create and print them out yourself (this is what I use to do when I was in high school). You can also print out photographs you’ve taken on your trips or ones you find online, and frame them, or get a knitted piece to add some texture. The wall art I have on my walls is from Desenio, but Target and IKEA also have great options too!
Magazines and books are one of my favorite ways to change up a space because not only can they look great, but you can also still read them. If you’re a book worm it can be hard to figure out where to store them, so get creative and make them part of the decor! You can stack books & magazines on shelfs, on the floor, on any table, under your bed where they can be seen, or even in baskets. You can even goes as far as to color code them if that’s the look you want.
Pillows are probably the easiest way to change up a room, although they can be a bit expensive after awhile. I find pillow covers to be the best choice, since they’re cheaper and you can change them out every so often without having to buy a whole new pillow. If you don’t want to buy new pillows or pillow covers, you can always just move them around in your space! Every so often I’ll do this and even though it’s not the biggest change, it tricks my eye into thinking I’ve done something major.
Duvets are the best option if you know you’re someone who likes to change how your bed looks. I use to constantly buy new bedding until I finally bought a duvet, and it’s been one of my best purchases! All you have to do if buy 1 duvet and 2 covers, and then switch them out for the seasons. You can also do the same with blankets. A thick, knitted one for the winter, and a lighter one for cooler summer evenings.
Rugs can be very expensive, but there are actually a few good inexpensive ones out there! This black and white striped one is from IKEA and it was only $25. I find rugs can help break up your space, add more visual interest if you have carpeted floors, and some warmth if you have hardwood floors.
Now this is something I haven’t tried yet but definitely want to! Wall paper is great expect for it being hard to remove, so this is the best option if you want to have a wall that is a fun pattern but don’t want the long term commitment.
I’m almost at the point where I might find out how many mirrors is too many mirrors, but you just can’t go wrong with them. They help make any space look bigger, are great for checking your outfit in the morning, and add some fun to the walls.
And those are my favorite ways to change up a space! Just have fun with it and let your space come together over time.
