Updated Instagram Hashtag Guide + Tips

Almost 2 years ago I created my first Instagram hashtag guide post, and I thought I would do an updated one as I’ve discovered so many new hashtags! Hashtags are a great way for people who don’t follow you to see your photos, and for you to discover other people’s photos too. These are all sectioned off into categories, with everything from lifestyle to travel + more. So here is my updated Instagram hashtag guide + tips for using them!

These are great for really any type of photo!

#simplethingsmadebeautiful #finditliveit #darlingmovement #amblifeiscolorful #nothingisordinary #photosinbetween #pursuepretty #seekthesimplicity #bevisuallyinspried #flashesofdelight #moodygrams #livecolorfully #enjoythelittlethings #petitejoys #lovelysquares #thatsdarling #liveauthentic #inspiremyinstagram #postitfortheaesthetic #thehappynow #livethelittlethings #discoverunder10k #discoverunder5k #darlingdaily #thatauthenticfeeling #liveunscripted #mybeautifulmess #verilymoment #theartofslowliving #livebeautifully #abmhappylife #momentslikethese

These are great for any outfit photos you post. I personally mix half of these with lifestyle hashtags for my outfit photos.

30 Hashtag Limit

Instagram has a limit of 30 hashtags per photo, so always keep that in mind!

Look For Brand’s Hashtags

If you’re posting an outfit photo, chances are one of the brands you are wearing has a hashtag you can use on Instagram. This way the brand may see your photo and may decide to repost it.

Use A Mix Of Types Of Hashtags

This is completely up to you, but I personally always like to have a mix of different types of hashtags. So if I’m posting an outfit photo I will use a mix of fashion and lifestyle hashtags. I also like to have a mix of hashtags based on the number of photos that are in each hashtag. Having a mix between ones with millions of photos and hundred thousands of photos can raise the chance of more people seeing your photo.

Check Each Hashtag Before Use

It’s a good idea to check each hashtag before using them for a few reasons. Some hashtags, due to lots of photos that don’t meet Instagram’s guidelines being included, may not be able to be used anymore. And it’s also a good idea to do this to see if your photo fits what the hashtag is, and to see how many people interact with the hashtag.

Change Some Hashtags For Every Photo

Now, this can be a bit time consuming and seem pointless at times, but it’s important to at least change out a few hashtags for each photo every once and while. Not only will this allow you to use different hashtags and get new people to see your photos, but it stops Instagram from seeing your posts as spam, which could result in being shadowbanned.

Keep Hashtag List On Your Phone

Having a list of all the hashtags you like to use in your phone’s notes makes posting on Instagram easier. I personally have a set of 30 for each type of photo, and then a list of other hashtags I can switch a few out for.

And that is my updated Instagram hashtag guide + tips for using them! Remember that it’s all about finding what hashtags work best for you.
