Earlier this year after opening my online boutique I started thinking about the direction I wanted to go in life. I was slowly realizing that the uncertainty that comes with owning a business wasn’t something I wanted to be my main job. Which led to many sleepless nights worrying about the future and figuring out what comes next. I thought I would share a general idea of where I’m going in life and share some hopefully helpful pieces of advice for anyone who feels a little stuck.
Long story short, after going back and forth many times I have decided to go back to college. If you don’t know, last year I graduated with an Associates in Business. And although I enjoyed the program, I knew the career path I could take wasn’t one that excited me. So I decided to finally go for the thing I discovered I loved about 2 years ago. Even though the last thing I wanted to do was go back, I know it’s the right choice.
I don’t want to jinx anything, so I sadly won’t be telling you what exactly it is I am going back to college for until it’s set in stone (with graduation + a job). But if you stick around for 2ish years you might find out. It’s in tech and although I have only been doing it for a little over a week, I already love it.
One of the things I find the most comforting is that no one has any idea what they are doing, and we’re all just winging it. There are over 7 billion versions of normal, so don’t let what every else’s journey looks like stop you from creating your own.
As cliche as it is, life really is too short to not make changes and go for what you want. We often think because of our age, or if we already have a set path that we can’t decide to do something else. And that is honestly ridiculous. Some people are lucky and find what they want to do at 18. Some people it’s 25, 40, 60, or later.
It’s nerve-wracking and hard to start over from the beginning, but it’s worth it in the end. There really is no wrong way of living life. The main goal is to be happy, so even if it takes a lot of time or you can’t do it right now, it’s better to try than to have never tried at all.
